Pacers Cut Austin Croshere
October 25, 2008 – 5:44 pm
It looks like the 11 year NBA career of former Providence College star forward Austin Croshere might be coming to an end. The Indiana Pacers, the team with which Croshere has spent most of his time, cut the veteren forward on Thursday. Croshere, easily one of the greatest Friars players of all-time, will be remembered most by Rhode Islanders for being the star on the talent laden 1997 Elite 8 team that featured players like God Shammgod, Derrick Brown and Ruben Garces and was one missed three pointer against eventual national champion Arizona away from a trip to the Final 4.
College Stats 96-97: 17.9 PTS, 7.5 REB, 1.5 AST, 1.1 STL, 0.7 BLK, .455 FG%, .349 3PT%, .888 FT%
Croshere’s biggest NBA moment came as a member of the Pacers in the 2000 NBA Finals against the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers. Austin had a memorable series, and many, including the Pacers brass who handed Croshere a huge contract following the season, thought he was ready to break out. However, the 1999-2000 season would be Croshere’s best and the 6′ 9″ forward spent most of the remainder of his NBA career as a valuable player off the bench for Indiana, Dallas and Golden State before trying to catch on with the Pacers again this season.
We’ll keep an eye on Croshere as he attempts to catch on with another NBA team.
